Three new nalezny.cz modules for articles, variants and digital sales
Last updated:
Three new PrestaShop modules have joined nalezny.cz: Simple CMS for articles, Variant Extra Description for combination-specific text, and Virtual Combinations for digital products with variants. Here is how they work, where they fit together, and what to check in your theme and multistore setup.
One product, two choices: download a module and install it yourself, or order the same module with professional installation. The file is identical in both cases, but the price and the service included are different. The customer needs a clear explanation of the selected option. You may also want a more detailed guide elsewhere on the website, ready to link from the product page.
That is where three new additions to nalezny.cz meet: Simple CMS, Variant Extra Description and Virtual Combinations. They address different parts of a store: publishing articles, writing descriptions for individual product combinations, and selling digital products with variants. Each can be used on its own. In a software or service business, their uses can also fit together.
Simple CMS keeps articles in PrestaShop's own CMS
PrestaShop's native CMS works well for ordinary information pages. A regularly updated section of guides or technical articles also needs useful listings, lead images, short introductions and links between related pieces. Simple CMS adds those publishing features.
The important detail is where the content lives. The module continues to use the original PrestaShop CMS pages and categories. It does not create a second article archive that requires a separate copy of the content. An editor works with a CMS page, assigns it to the appropriate category, and adds an image and a short introduction, also called a perex. That introduction has separate language versions, so the Czech and English summaries can be written independently without inserting them into the main article body.
Categories can have their own images too. The uploaded original is retained, and the module generates a derivative for display. Category pages list articles newest first according to their creation sequence, specifically by descending CMS page ID. This avoids maintaining a separate index page by hand every time another article is published.
What readers see and what administrators can set
An article page shows its title, image, introduction and body. The module adds breadcrumbs and can display further active articles from the same category below the text. Their number and order are configurable: newest first, oldest first, or articles around the current page in the same sequence. An installation guide can therefore lead readers to a related guide for everyday use.
Simple CMS records CMS page creation and edit timestamps and can display the last edit time. It cannot reconstruct the original publication date of an older page if that date was never stored. When working with existing content, the first newly recorded edit should not be mistaken for a historical publication date.
Settings let the administrator enable dedicated category and article URLs, choose a shared prefix, or leave the prefix empty. A path can then follow a structure such as /articles/article-title. With these routes enabled, the module redirects the original native CMS addresses using permanent 301 redirects. It also handles conflicting slugs by adding an ID to the address that would otherwise collide.
The module integrates with Google sitemap, passing URLs for active categories and indexable articles through its standard hook. A static sitemap still needs to be regenerated after URL settings change: changing a route does not rewrite an XML file that has already been generated. Simple CMS provides its own storefront templates and does not edit theme files. If automatic routing is switched off, examples in the configuration explain how to add the new fields to a theme manually.
Simple CMS requires PrestaShop 9.2 or a later release in the 9.x series. It uses the native Extra Properties system to extend CMS forms. Compatibility with an older store should therefore not be assumed.
Variant Extra Description explains the option being selected
Some information is shared by every variant of a product, while other details depend on the customer's choice. The main description of a software module may apply to all options, but the installation option needs its own explanation of what the service covers. For physical goods, the difference might concern material, compatibility or package contents. A general description listing every possibility leaves the customer to find the relevant passage.
Variant Extra Description adds a separate rich-text description to each specific product combination. This is more precise than a label for an attribute such as colour or size. The text belongs to the selected combination: a particular colour in a particular size, for example, or a specific service option.
Editing takes place in the product's Modules tab. Select a combination and write its additional description. Translations use PrestaShop's native multilingual field and TinyMCE editor, and all language versions for that combination are saved together. The editor does not have to move into a separate content system.
The description follows the customer's selection
On the storefront, the module shows the description for the current combination. When the shopper changes an option, it responds to PrestaShop's AJAX product update and refreshes the text without reloading the whole page. The merchant must write these descriptions first; the module does not invent product properties or translate the content automatically.
Two positions are available. The default uses the standard additional product information area. The alternative places the description immediately below the combination selectors, close to the customer's choice. That second position requires the theme to support the displayAfterProductVariants hook. It is provided in the Hummingbird theme; another theme needs to be checked and, where necessary, adapted.
In multistore, descriptions are stored per shop, with a shared-shop value available as a fallback. Uninstalling the module preserves the saved text. That is useful when temporarily disabling the feature or working on the content later, although displaying it still depends on the module and the relevant theme position.
The current version, 1.2.2, supports PrestaShop 9.1.5 and later releases in the 9.x series, with PrestaShop 9.2 as the primary development target. An English PDF guide is included in the package and linked from the module configuration.
Virtual Combinations offers several ways to buy one digital product
For software, templates and other downloadable files, different commercial options do not always require different files. The distinction may be an accompanying service. Virtual Combinations connects native PrestaShop combinations with virtual delivery and one shared download for that situation.
Start by creating a standard product with combinations. Attributes, combination generation, stock quantities and price impacts remain in the normal product editor. An installation charge is therefore set as the usual price impact of the relevant combination. In the product's Modules section, select the shared file, set its customer-facing name and download rules, and enable virtual delivery.
ZIP archives are supported. The module provides the archive as uploaded and does not extract it. Saving the settings again without choosing a replacement retains the existing file. Download access can be limited by a period in days and a maximum number of downloads. Customers obtain the file through their account after the order has been paid.
What sharing one file does and does not cover
Every combination uses the same file. If each option needs a different installer, document or archive contents, this feature does not meet that requirement. Likewise, purchasing an option called “with installation” does not perform an installation. The module lets the merchant offer and price the service; the provider still has to carry it out.
PrestaShop does not require carrier selection for a cart containing only virtual products. If the customer adds a physical item, shipping continues through the store's normal delivery process. Enabling virtual delivery for one item does not remove shipping from every mixed order.
The virtual delivery switch can be turned off again. This deactivates the download while retaining the combinations and stored file. Uninstalling the module restores registered products to non-virtual delivery and disables their downloads, without deleting combinations or files. This behaviour matters when considering an uninstall on a live shop.
Multistore needs particular attention. PrestaShop does not store a product's virtual flag independently for every shop. Virtual Combinations therefore requires a single shop context and rejects products also assigned to other shops. This prevents a delivery change from affecting another domain. The current version, 1.1.0, is developed for PrestaShop 9.2 and includes an English PDF manual.
How the three can work around one product
Consider a module that customers can download on its own or buy with professional installation. In Virtual Combinations, set the shared ZIP and two combinations with the appropriate price impacts. In Variant Extra Description, explain the scope of each option: what the customer receives and what they may need to arrange themselves. Use Simple CMS to publish a guide covering the setup in more detail than belongs on a product page.
This is a usage example, rather than an automatic installation process or a requirement to buy all three modules. A shop needing clearer descriptions for sizes or materials may only need Variant Extra Description. A site publishing regular guides may benefit from Simple CMS alone. Virtual Combinations addresses a different, specific need: selling a shared digital file through several product options.
Before choosing, check the PrestaShop version, the theme's support for the intended description position and, for a digital product, its multistore assignments. nalezny.cz offers a free download for self-installation of Variant Extra Description and Virtual Combinations, with professional developer installation available as another product option. The linked product pages show the current choices.
Features and limitations are based on the product information and downloadable modules checked on 23 October 2026: Simple CMS 2.2.8, Variant Extra Description 1.2.2 and Virtual Combinations 1.1.0. The thematic image is an illustration, not a screenshot of the back office.
