PrestaShop 9.2: a shorter path to purchase, custom fields and AI in the back office
Last updated:
PrestaShop 9.2 adds three features for checkout and store management: an optional one-page checkout, Extra Properties for custom fields, and Ask AI. The checkout may reduce steps, but its benefit depends on the theme and payment and delivery modules. Extra Properties supports selected entities and placements. Ask AI needs an external provider and API key and asks for approval before making changes. Test compatibility before upgrading.
The stable release introduces a new checkout flow, native fields for custom data and a conversational assistant. Here is what they offer and what to consider before putting them to use.
The stable release of PrestaShop 9.2 arrived on 30 September 2026. It brings three additions that affect different parts of a store: checkout, the way custom data is handled, and store administration. This does not mean an update will automatically increase sales or save hours of work. These are new options built into PrestaShop that may simplify some customizations. Checkout on one page
PrestaShop 9.2 includes the native One Page Checkout module. Contact details, address, delivery and payment can all appear on one page. Guests start by entering an email address and add the remaining details as they go. If they change the delivery address, the available carriers update immediately; choosing a different carrier can also change the payment methods on offer. The page does not reload during this process. Find out more about One Page Checkout
For shoppers, fewer steps may make it easier to complete an order, especially on a phone. Simply combining the steps does not guarantee a higher conversion rate, though. The result depends on the store, the length of its forms, the available delivery options and whether its payment modules work correctly. Only real-world use and measurement can show the difference; switching on an option in the back office cannot.
One Page Checkout is bundled with version 9.2, and stores can continue to use the existing four-step flow and switch between the two in the back office. Before enabling it, check that your theme is compatible. According to the documentation, themes built on Hummingbird work without further changes, while Classic may need template adjustments. PrestaShop also recommends that payment and delivery module developers check how their modules behave in the new flow. This comparison of themes in an Italian review of version 9.2 by BWLab is another good reason to test your own setup before launch.
Extra Properties: custom fields without repeating the same work
Over time, every store needs to record something its standard forms do not cover: an extra product detail, an internal order reference or a specific customer record. Developers have often had to build custom tables, storage and links to PrestaShop data for these cases. Extra Properties provides a shared way to add fields to supported entities.
In the back office, under Advanced Parameters > Extra Properties, merchants and integrators can create fields without programming. They choose the entity, field type and display location, such as a form or an administration list. Depending on the setup, a value can also be made available on the front office or through the Admin API. Fields can use one shared value, have a translation for each language, or store a separate value for each shop. Read the Extra Properties documentation
For merchants, the main benefit is that a custom field does not have to be built from scratch each time. For developers, native storage and display options reduce the need to repeat the same work across modules. The feature is not a universal replacement for custom development: the entity and placement you need must be supported.
Ask AI: an assistant for store management
Ask AI is a conversational assistant available in the back office. Instead of searching through several screens, you can ask questions in everyday language about orders, customers or products. It works with store data through the PrestaShop MCP Server and can also suggest changes. Before making a change, it asks the user for confirmation.
It is useful to understand what “native” means here: Ask AI is included in the PrestaShop Classic edition, but you need to connect an AI provider and enter your own API key before using it. Any usage charges are billed by the provider you choose. The official PrestaShop help article in Spanish explains setup and approval of actions.
What to take away from these changes
PrestaShop 9.2 brings a visible change for shoppers in the form of an optional one-page checkout, along with two additions that may simplify back-office work or module development. The practical benefit will depend on the theme and modules your store uses and whether custom fields or an assistant for store data are useful to you.
Before upgrading, it makes sense to check theme and module compatibility, create a backup and try the changes in a test environment first. This is particularly important for checkout: a delivery or payment issue appears at the point when a customer is trying to place an order.
